The Mangekyō Sharingan

The Mangekyō Sharingan is one of the strongest visual jutsu in the known ninja world. To obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan, the bearer of a Sharingan must experience intense emotional trauma related to the loss of a loved one, usually in relation to their death. Work with your DM to determine what situation might call for such an emotional response. For example, the death of a loved one is a simple and direct way to unlock the Mangekyō Sharingan. However, if you have the means to resurrect the dead, such an experience might not have the same emotional weight.

The abilities of a Mangekyō Sharingan manifest in many different ways. Sometimes the power of a particular power resides in one eye, while another may be within both. Certain Mangekyō abilities have been known to be shared amongst relatives. The reason behind this is unknown. When you develop your Mangekyō Sharigan, the technique or techniques you gain are determined randomly or by the DM.

Techniques granted by the Mangekyō Sharingan are considered Dojutsu, but some are also classified as another jutsu type as well (Amaterasu, for example, is also considered Ninjutsu).

Using the Mangekyō Sharingan is taxing on your eyes. The Dojutsu that comes from your Mangekyō Sharigan will potentially cause harm to your eyes when used. The severity and likelihood of causing damage depend on the jutsu used. Each of your eyes can suffer damage 5 times. Once an eye has taken damage 5 times, it becomes permanently blind. The only way to restore this damage is by transforming the eye into an Eternal Mangekyō (detailed later in this section), or some other form of super-medical healing, such as with the use of the 1st Hokage Cells.

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is the next stage in the powerful Dojutsu possessed by the Uchiha clan. In order to obtain an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, you must transplant the eyes of a close family member who also has the Mangekyō Sharingan into your skull. Once you do so, you suffer 3 levels of exhaustion and take a -3 penalty on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. For each long rest you take after the transplant is completed, this penalty is reduced by one until it is no longer present.

With Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, you no longer damage your eyes when you use Mangekyō Sharingan abilities. In addition, the chakra cost of all your Mangekyō Sharingan Dojutsu is cut in half (rounded up).
