Kenjutsu

Ninja who turn using bladed weapons into an artform are masters of Kenjutsu. Kenjutsu uses your strength or dexterity (whichever is higher) for the purposes of determining the Jutsu attack rolls and Jutsu Save DC. The following jutsus requires the caster to utilize a bladed weapon.

When you cast a Kenjutsu as an action or a bonus action, you can still use your remaining action or bonus action to cast a Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, or Shurikenjutsu technique.

D-Rank

Blade Throw

D-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Action

Range: Self

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 0 points

You throw a weapon that normally doesn’t have the thrown property at an enemy. You make a ranged attack roll against an opponent with a weapon that lacks the thrown property. The weapon has a range of 20/60 feet for that attack.

You cannot cast this jutsu if you have no chakra points remaining.

Disarming Strike

D-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: 5 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 1 point

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can activate this jutsu to attempt to disarm the target, forcing it to drop one item of your choice that it's holding. If you successfully hit, the target takes your weapon damage, and it must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, it drops the object you choose. The object lands at its feet.

Feint

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action

Range: Self

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 1 point

You cause a feint with your blade while fighting, causing your opponent to create an opening in their defenses. Your next weapon attack with a bladed weapon has advantage.

Lunge Strike

D-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: Self

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 0 points

You lunge forward with your weapon. You cast this jutsu when you take the attack action. This jutsu extends your weapon’s reach by 5 feet, and causes the weapon to do piercing damage for that strike if it would normally deal a different type of damage.

You cannot cast this jutsu if you have no chakra points remaining.

Sweeping Strike

D-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: 5 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 1 point

When you strike out at a creature within 5 feet of you, you can activate this jutsu as part of that attack. If there is another creature within 5 feet of you and the creature you are targeting, you make an attack roll against that creature as well.

Tripping Strike

D-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Action

Range: 5 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 1 point

You strike at an enemy's legs, tripping them and knocking them prone. Make an attack roll with your weapon on a target within range. If you hit, you deal your weapon’s normal damage and knock your opponent prone.

C-Rank

Bleeding Wound

C-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: 5 feet

Duration: 1 Minute

Chakra Point Cost: 2 points

You strike at an enemy attempting to cause a lingering bleeding wound. You can use this jutsu when you take the attack action. If you hit, you deal your normal weapon damage plus an additional 1d6 points of damage of your weapon’s type. At the beginning of the creature's turns, it takes 1d6 points of damage. This occurs at the beginning of its turn for 1 minute until a successful DC 15 medicine check is applied, or until it receives healing from any source.

Flashing Strike

C-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action

Range: Self

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Minute

Chakra Point Cost: 1 point

You weave your speed with your attack strength. You cast the Zephyr Strike spell at 1st level.

Lingering Blade

C-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: 5 feet

Duration: 1 round

Chakra Point Cost: 2 points

You masterfully strike across your opponent leaving lingering damage. When you make a successful attack, you can choose to cast this jutsu. You deal your normal weapon damage with that strike. At the top of the attacked creature's turn, it must make a constitution saving throw. It takes 3d8 points of force damage, or half as much on a successful one.

Sharpness

C-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action

Range: Touch

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Hour

Chakra Point Cost: 2 points

You infuse your chakra into your blade increasing its power. You cast the Magic Weapon spell at 2nd level.

Spending More Chakra. You can spend additional Chakra points to cast the spell at a higher level. For each point you spend past the original cost, you increase the level of the spell. You can spend a maximum of 9 chakra points on this jutsu.

B-Rank

Crescent Slash

B-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action

Range: Self

Duration: 1 Minute

Chakra Point Cost: 3 points

You move extremely fast while wielding your blade, creating several afterimages to confuse your opponent. Make your melee attacks with your weapon at advantage this round. Your after images linger around you for one minute or until you are hit by an attack, causing all attacks against you to have disadvantage.

Focused Strike

B-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: Part of an attack made with a bladed weapon

Range: 5 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 3 points

You charge your blade with chakra. When you successfully hit a creature with a melee attack, you deal an additional 3d8 points of weapon damage. You can spend additional chakra points to increase the potency of this jutsu.

Spending More Chakra. You can spend additional chakra points to enhance the power of this jutsu. For each point you spend past the original cost, the damage increases by 1d8. You can spend a maximum of 8 Chakra points with this jutsu.

A-Rank

Blade Infusion

A-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action

Range: Self

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Minute

Chakra Point Cost: see description

Requirement: Chakra Blade

You infuse your sword with pure chakra energy. When you cast this jutsu, you can spend any number of chakra points limited only by your level. The next attack made with your weapon that connects deals additional force damage equal to 5 times the amount of the chakra you spent. When you successfully hit with the weapon, the jutsu ends.

Great Swift Strikes

A-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Action

Range: 30 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 4 points

Requirement: You must know the Body Flicker jutsu

By weaving your extreme speed with your striking power, you devastated multiple targets with a single attack. You cast the Steel Wind Strike spell at 5th level.

S-Rank

Roaring Slash

S-Rank Kenjutsu

Casting Time: 1 Action (considered an attack)

Range: 30 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Chakra Point Cost: 5 points

You strike at an opponent within 30 feet of you. You make a melee weapon attack with a bladed weapon against that creature. If you hit, you deal 10d12 points of slashing damage to that creature. This attack is capable of cutting clean through stone and other obstacles. This is considered an attack for the purposes of other features and abilities.
